This course has been designed for mountaineers and climbers with experience on ice who have already completed the beginner’s course and who wish to further enhance their knowledge, to progress more safely or to learn the advanced techniques of ice climbing.  It is also ideal for those who wish to take on more difficult climbs without the need for an accompanying guide. It is essential that participants have solid climbing experience over a variety of routes of differing lengths.



  • Understanding the environment; common dangers of ice climbing.

  • Techniques of gestural progression and safe fixing systems on vertical walls.  

  • Safe fixing methods in specific conditions

  • Basic self-rescue techniques.

  • Abseiling.

  • Introduction to climbing without wrist leash and to mixed modern climbing.



Different areas depending upon the mountain conditions and weather: Valle de Benasque, Boí-Cavallers, Bielsa, Pineta, Gavarnie,Tromouse ...



January, February and March. If conditions permit.

Duration: 5 days ( 3 days/4 pax per teacher - 2 days / 2 pax per teacher)

People: 4 student per teacher

Equipment needed:

Crampones, 2 piolets técnicos, botas invernales, arnes,casco, mosquetones de seguridad, 1 cuerda de 8.5mm o 9mm y cordinos largos además del equipo y vestimenta invernal. Tornillos de hielo y cordinos de 7mm para autobloqueantes.


Long lanyards and adequate winter equipment and clothing to give protection against the cold. Ice screws and 7 mm. lanyards for fall arrest systems. Please consult to double-check specific equipment requirements or to consult if you are missing material.
